Are you a talented Mechanical Engineer, looking for an opportunity to be involved cutting-edge projects and technologies, where your activities could have a direct impact in future engineering progression? My client is a leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy in the UK with a global scope and a highly regarded reputation in delivery excellence. As the largest consultant engineer to the UK Defence market, demand for their quality engineering services is high and therefore require a number of individuals to join their expanding team. Working with multi-skilled experts and covering land, sea and air, as well as information and communications projects, you will have the opportunity to work across the lifecycle of a platform, system or facility. Working to support a number of key Defence programmes as well as significant projects outside the Defence industry, you will have the opportunity to develop strong design and analytical skills and plant knowledge to deliver projects for other internal or external clients. As a Mechanical Engineer with a stress and/or a design and substantiation expertise you will work on a range of challenging projects in high integrity environments. You will have a track record of delivering technical solutions in challenging timescales. Successful candidates would be expected to: Produce designs and calculations to demonstrate acceptable performance or identify design issues (Identification and supervision of designs would be required of higher-level individuals) Author and update technical documents to present your work /technical findings (e.g. design substantiation reports, safety justifications) Lead requirements capture activities to identify the scope of work required (higher-level candidates) Support bidding activities through your time estimates Produce proposal documents (higher-level individuals) Manage your delivery against Time, Cost and Quality requirements Support our QA process through review or checking colleagues' work Presentation of your findings to clients Lead or Work within project teams (including placements at clients' sites, may be required) Take responsibility for the quality and delivery of your work Ability to apply technical knowledge in analysing problems and creating solutions Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and with client stakeholders, and manage these relationships effectively Suitable applicants will have: Degree-qualified or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartered status Experience some of the following technical disciplines is required; Concept design and development Design for manufacture CAD (preferably Unigraphics or Pro/ENGINEER) Design substantiation by hand calculation or Finite Element analysis (preferably Abaqus or Ansys) Stress analysis by hand calculation Finite Element analysis (preferably Abaqus or Ansys) Fatigue and fracture assessment ASME III Thermal analysis A sound understanding of mechanical engineering principles and their application to varied projects and domains A desire to be challenged and to contribute to the success of the business. Experience in one or more of the following industry domains is also desirable, but relevant experience of the essential criteria above from other industries will be considered; Aero Engines or Aero Structures Steam-raising power plant and components (pressure vessels, heat exchangers, pumps, valves, pipework etc) Nuclear industry knowledge and safety case appreciation Please Note: Although based in Derby or Bristol, travel to and from client sites and/or temporary secondment to clients offices may also be required. Due to the nature of work undertaken at our client's site, incumbents of these positions are required to meet special nationality rules and therefore these vacancies are only open to sole British Citizens.
