Job Description

Our client is a leader in the design, development, integration and support of complex systems, including naval sonar, combat management and command systems for maritime, terrestrial and airborne application in the defence sector.

They are currently looking for a Component Engineer/Senior Component Engineer to join their team in the South East, a role that offers the opportunity to travel around the world and provide systems support for electronic products used for military and naval applications.

Component Engineer/Senior Component Engineer

The Component Engineer/Senior Component Engineer will join a team supporting the Electronic and Mechanical Functions in their design activities, working on a wide range of projects to maintain the engineering part records within MRP tools (IFS and Windchill), monitoring part compliance and life status and supporting obsolescence studies as well as provide general support in the day to day usage of the MRP tools. The team is also responsible for managing parts in the ECAD database, producing IPC standard components that can be accessed by the Electronics Design Engineers across company sites.

Key Responsibilities include:
Monitor, manage and maintain parts databases (ECAD/MRP); ensuring records are up-to-date, are of adequate quality.
Support obsolescence studies and produce reports, covering full system, sub-system and individual board assemblies.
Support design engineers in the development of technical solutions that meet customer, legislative and business requirements.
Provide planning and estimation input into Project Managers related to components management activities.
Assist in the resolution of qualification, certification, compliance and safety issues.
Support risk identification and mitigation activities related to component obsolescence or maintainability.
Support the Electronic Function Lead to produce a set of processes and procedures for the component management activities.

To be considered for this role, applicants will need to be qualified to degree level or equivalent in Electronics or a relevant subject, with previous experience in a similar Component Engineer role. You will be familiar with one or more MRP (IFS/Windchill) and ECAD (CADSTAR or similar)/MCAD (Inventor or similar) tools and will have knowledge of EMC standards, Environmental Compliance requirements and Electronic or Mechanical design principles. You will also need experience of the whole Systems lifecycle within a defence environment and knowledge of Engineering best practices, methodologies, processes and tools.
