Job Description

Our client based in the Dorset area is looking for a Cost Estimator to join their team on a contract basis.
The successful candidate must hold or be eligible to obtain SC clearance.

You will be responsible for the construction of the offer to the customer, which will consist of report setting out cost, schedule, risks and supporting assumptions. This will drive negotiation of a significant contract and there will therefore be extensive senior-level liaison and likely opportunities to extend the contract and grow with the programmes as it moves towards deployment.

The successful candidate will inevitably have worked on costing substantial elements of one or more large defence/aerospace programs. They will enjoy working with data on a large scale and converting it into forms that can drive executive engagement and decision making. The role will be contracted to 6 months although the prospect of extension is highly likely.

Key responsibilities
Construction of the estimation models and the financial model derived from these -
*The estimation models will employ both conventional analysis (WBS costing) and numerical modelling techniques applied to the digital logic elements
*A resource loaded schedule working with an expert planner
*The necessary disciplines to manage the large volumes of data deriving from the estimation process
*Risk and assumption management and reporting

Skills and Experience
*Experience of large defense/aerospace contract cost modelling gained from either the employer or prime contractor perspectives; ideally both
*Good project finance skills allied to strong capabilities with Excel (E.g. pivot table/database integration level)

Desirable skills
*Estimation techniques for digital logic/software
*Application of specific estimation techniques, particularly as used with digital software systems - e.g. PERT and Monte Carlo
*General engineering skills e.g. electronics, software and/or mechanical engineering
*Any understanding of safety-related instrumentation and control systems
*Any understanding of planning techniques e.g. critical paths
