Job Description
Your primary function will be to develop and manage a team of skilled engineers/designers that provide all aspects of mechanical and industrial design to areas of the business, in support of projects, primarily Electronic Assemblies. You will also take on management of project work packages, giving direction to other mechanical design engineers as you may lead a small team on projects.
Electronic assemblies / packaging / enclosure experience is essential for this role.
Your duties and responsibilities as Lead Mechanical Design Engineer will include:
Motivate and lead a mechanical engineering and design team to achieve set objectives
Ensure the team work in a well-disciplined, structured and professional manner at all times, this includes behavioural, use of the CAD tools and adherence to company procedures and systems.
Plan and optimise resource to ensure engineers with the required skills and competencies are available to support new projects.
Ensure a highly skilled and competent resource is available to the business, training plans in place, succession planning, new skills being developed, creation of an environment that promotes innovation and out of the box thinking.
Provide support for standard products changes in support of the Design Office, ensuring timely completion and good communication.
Your Qualifications and Experience will include:
Degree level Engineering qualification or equivalent relevant experience
Proven experience of leading and managing a technical team of mechanical engineers and design engineers
Will be technically and theoretically strong and able to carry out engineering calculations in support of design solutions. Have experience of FEA and CFD simulation to verify complex designs
Highly competent level of mechanical engineering and design knowledge and application (machining, sheet metal fabrication, joining techniques etc.)
Experience of electronics packaging, both compact assemblies and large electrical enclosures
Highly proficient use and administration of 2D and 3D CAD packages (PTC Creo and AutoCAD preferred)
Competent in technical draughting
Knowledge and experience of applying design and drawing standards such as BS8888
Understand drawing GD&T to a high level
Knowledge of material science
Experience of product and document configuration management
Disciplined approach and good communication skills
Be proactive in seeking resolutions to problems.
