This is a 12-month fixed term opportunity.
The role will involve providing Manufacturing support at all parts of projects lifecycles ensuring DFM, DFT and DTC principles are applied to improve quality and cost. The objective is to achieve a comprehensive manufacturing preparation programme leading to a successful production phase launch and a smooth production/technology transfer from the initial build site in Seville to the Merthyr site with support to the uplift of pre-built product as required by the programme. The job will include;
*Working as part of an integrated team with Major assembly suppliers during the development and production cycles of the Scout Vehicle programme.
*Develop build sequences and supporting work instructions.
*Ensuring appropriate facilities are in place to support qualification / production vehicle and sub-system build and test in accordance to schedule.
*Supporting Design Engineering and other new programmes in order to ensure that DFM, DFT & DTC principles are implemented within the conceptual and final design phases
*Support bid activities by producing ROM estimates and detailed costings re: new designs and product design changes
*Develop optimized production line set-up using line balancing/buffer sizing and Kanban setting/replenishment strategy
*Drive LEAN initiatives throughout Manufacturing and Factory Acceptance Testing, with a bias on process improvements utilising Lean tools/principles (ie line balancing/buffer sizing and Kanbans) where appropriate.
*Ensure that process times are captured and a variance feedback system is in place for capture of real data.
*Advise and assist and promote the investigation of new manufacturing technologies
*Drive the implementation of Kaizen for Manufacturing's Continuous Improvements
*Executing an effective Technology Transfer process from Off shore partners into the UK.
*Use effective coaching techniques to train and develop the production team.
To be suitable for the Manufacturing Engineer role you will need to be proficient in leading Route Cause Analysis investigations`, with a proven ability to work and forge sound relationships with project driven teams. A proven background of exploiting LEAN principles and their application is needed, as is the ability to make decisions within your scope of authority and take responsibility for these and the flexibility to recognise and respond to the changing needs of the role.
