Job Description

As a Principal/Senior Defence Maritime Safety Engineer you will be responsible for establishing and growing a successful Maritime (safety) capability within the company. This role is a mixture of sales and technical delivery.

You will have the ability to build strong and effective working relationships with customers and colleagues; you will be able to present ideas successfully, offering strong negotiation, persuasion and listening skills, with a flexible and positive approach to work. You will also possess exceptional report writing skills, striving for the highest quality standards with focus on service delivery and excelling expectations. You'll have a natural or developing ability to engage with potential customers, building trust and confidence.

You will be required to support both business development (sales) and project delivery via application of engineering expertise.


Define the plan for establishing a successful Defence Maritime Safety business unit
Deliver individual safety targets as defined and agreed with the Company to support the wider sales targets.
Identify potential customers and visit them to develop new business.
Negotiating terms of agreement with customers and closing sales (including variations).
Maintain and develop relationships with customers via meetings, telephone calls and email.
Plan and deliver safety management activities within maritime programmes.
Legislation, Regulation and Standards Compliance in accordance with MOD Shipping Regulations, Ship Class Certification Rules, ANEP-77 Naval Ship Code, MARPOL etc.
Evidence-based safety risk management - hazard identification, analysis and control.
Development and assurance of Safety Arguments for platforms and equipment in support of established or emergent Safety and Environmental Cases, Naval Authority Certification and adherence to the regulatory requirements contained within the MOD Shipping Regulations for Safety and Environmental Protection.
Represent at conferences, exhibitions and trade shows.

Your experience will include the following

Degree educated in a relevant subject or equivalent experience
Experience in the Maritime Defence industry in a safety related role
Experience in a relevant assurance role
Maritime Defence exposure either via the Royal Navy/Royal Fleet Auxiliary or DE&S
Generating sales in the Maritime Defence business
Supporting successful delivery of Maritime Defence projects on time and to budget
Developed business plans and successfully deliver against them
Extensive Maritime Defence contacts and knowledge.
Tender development
Creation and delivery of professional quality presentations and written documents

Maritime Safety Business Manager
Bristol, Bath, Chippenham, Corsham Area.
£40,000 - £60,000 (DOE)

Due to the nature of work undertaken at our client's site, incumbents of these positions are required to meet special nationality rules and therefore these vacancies are only open to sole British Citizens.
