Job Description

Our client supplies Navigation Solutions including radars, compass systems, steering systems, speed logs and integrated bridge & control systems to the commercial and defence maritime sectors.

Mechanical CAD Designer

They are currently seeking a Mechanical CAD Designer to support all Mechanical Design work on current and future projects, providing CAD skills coupled with Engineering experience in the delivery of designs and products for Defence surface and sub-surface boats.

As part of the Hardware Mechanical Team, you will undertake design activities involved with 3D CAD Modelling from Concept, Development through Prototyping and Production by the generation of Assembly Drawings, Detail Drawings and Bill of Material (BOM) creation, whilst preparing documentation for the successful delivery of design reviews (PDR/CDR) in conjunction with Principal Mechanical Engineers.

You will:
*Ensure that detail drawings conform to Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with BS8888.
*Ensure that changes are captured on Development Change Notes (DCN) and Production Changes Notes (CN) and implemented into the drawing set and BOM's to maintain the current status of the build standard going forward.
*Base a high proportion of your Mechanical design work around Electronic Packaging of outstations for situation in various parts of the boats with varying requirements.
*Undertake visits to subcontractors to agree designs or investigate any problems arising in the manufacture of the hardware.

To be considered for this role, applicants will need to be qualified to HNC/HND/Degree level (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a similar subject, with previous Mechanical/Electromechanical experience within the Marine industry.

You will have:
*Good working knowledge of Creo Elements 3.0 and Windchill PDM Link 11.0 (although consideration will be given to other packages such as Solidworks or Inventor).
*Knowledge of workshop practice.
*Knowledge of manufacturing techniques.
*Knowledge of engineering materials and processing.
*Ability to perform manual calculations.

In addition, the following would be beneficial:

*Understanding of the Marine Environment and knowledge of Radar and Integrated Platform Management System Products.
*Basic understanding of Electrical Principles.
*Understanding of how Commercial/Military projects are run.
*AutoCAD Mechanical
*Creo Simulate (FEA)
*Autodesk Simulation (CFD)
*Understanding/knowledge of IEC60945, Shock, Vibration, EMC/RFI and Climatic Testing
