Job Description
A Naval Architect is required on a CONTRACT basis at their site in Gosport to work on maritime projects.
Working as part of a combined team, your primary role is to lead the structural design of a concept through to tender-level design submission, including Class Approval in Principle. The role will require previous experience of scantling derivation, LR Class Rules, an in-depth knowledge of large ship structure and the ability to generate a coherent set of scantling plans. You will be able to lead small teams, make decisions and report into the Chief Engineer.
Key Accountabilities
To take an existing midship section for a design and confirm compliance with Lloyds Rules for Naval Ships (LRNS) NS1, SA1 notation requirements
Produce additional selected ship structural sections to same notation
Produce scantling plans, structural profile and sheer plan for class Plan Approval
Identify structural arrangement for deckhouse, including expansion joints if needed
Key Experience
BEng / MEng Marine Engineering / Naval Architecture or equivalent relevant experience
Relevant experience in engineering/systems engineering or requirements engineering
Thorough knowledge and understanding of large ship structures and Class Rules
Experience of scantling derivation to Class Rules and producing set of Scantling Plans.
Ability to find novel solutions for complex structural problems
Ability to lead a small project team
Good awareness of design for production
Understanding of design development of vessels and systems
Ability to manage the requirements of multidisciplinary stakeholders
Competent in the use of AutoCAD, Microsoft Office and Ship Constructor or similar
Good knowledge and understanding of the Commercial and UK Military Marine industry
