Job Description

Our client is looking for a Portfolio Manager to join their team for a remote based contract. You will have proven experience of establishing, running and finally closing Portfolio or Programmes of £50M+ along with a background in medical research and academic programmes of work.

Overall purpose:
Leads the effective and efficient operation of portfolio management for the National Core
Study into COVID Transmission and the Environment and ensures the provision of suitable information to enable effective decision making to the Programme Director, Portfolio Director, and the Portfolio Management Board.


1 Accountable for the recruitment and leadership of the Portfolio Management Team including the Portfolio Management Office, Information office, and financial planning, control and reporting office. Provision of ongoing mentoring.
2 Accountable for the effective implementation and operation of portfolio controls and reporting across study themes and suppliers including but not limited to:

* Portfolio Management Framework
* Portfolio Delivery Plan
* Portfolio Risk Register
* Portfolio Issue Register
* Dependency Management Register
* Dashboards
* Management Reporting

1 Management of the relationship and escalations with theme leads and any related escalations
2 Accountable for ensuring the tracking of deliverables against commitments
3 Responsible for portfolio financial planning and ongoing control of the portfolio budget
4 Accountable for ensuring effective and efficient contract management with suppliers
5 Accountable for the effective dissemination of information and knowledge created through the study
6 Production and maintenance of the benefits realisation plan and assurance of progress towards its realisation
7 Production and maintenance of the critical success factor plan and assurance of its realisation
8 Leadership of the operational interface to the Delivery Management Board, Finance Committee, and Procurement
9 Provision of a focal point for advice to theme leads, programme managers, suppliers and project managers on best practice programme and project management
10 Lead and deliver through the Portfolio Office future supplier relationships including Open Calls

Essential Skills and Experience:

* Proven experience of establishing, running and finally closing Portfolio or Programmes of £50M+
* Proven experience in medical research and academic programmes of work
* Deep experience in managing complex external supplier and partner relationships
* Experience of working in the public sector and in academic environments
