They are currently looking for a Power Systems Engineer to join their team in Central Birmingham to develop tools and models to test hypotheses and ideas on meeting the UK's ambitious energy and climate change goals, as major transformation of the energy infrastructure will be required to achieve this.
We are currently looking for a power systems engineer to join our team to contribute in designing, constructing and analysing 'whole system' energy systems models. This role requires someone with an understanding of how to take a selection of representative electrical networks and create dynamic models which integrate with our other tools such as Simulink.
The Power Systems Engineer will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to develop approaches, models with the intention of understanding how business models, data and information made available through smart grids and connected homes can interact with physical energy systems in the future.
Initially the focus will be supporting the modelling team with looking at approaches to performing load flow analysis from 400V up to transmission voltages. The job includes;
*Propose, test and modify approaches to network modelling, integrated with our core tool-suites.
*Developing new tools and approaches to understand dynamic network issues and to test how business models, commercial incentives and big data can come together to resolve the issues.
*Collecting, processing and managing data (quality) to support complex energy network models.
*Developing load flow test scenarios and procedures to explore different network / load conditions.
*Use network insights to recommend changes and propose new ideas on system design, model development and implementation.
*Write supporting documentation to assist with future maintenance of software and models.
*Learning how different energy systems (electricity, gas, heat etc.) operate and integrate
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
*Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline (Software, physical science, engineering, mathematics)
*Previous background in designing/studying electrical transmission or distribution systems.
*Previous demonstrated ability to perform analysis / research using load-flow tools (e.g. IPSA, DIgSilent PowerFactory or similar).
*Scripting or development experitnce using Python (or similar)
*Experience of developing in MATLAB / Simulink environment is advantageous.
*Previous experience of development using collaborative, agile methodologies is advantageous.
*Proven understanding of software configuration and change management is desired.
