As Principal Mechanical Design Engineer you will be responsible for planning and on-time delivery of all engineering tasks required for new Electrical Generator or Motors projects from concept design through to completion of qualification. You would also be expected to provide specialist mechanical engineering guidance and leadership as an internal company specialist to support solving of complex engineering problems as needed.
Your responsibilities will include:
Lead a Project team ensuring a high performing, motivated and engaged team
Management of all Engineering activities to support project timescales and budget commitments.
To oversee and check design calculations such as interference fits, thermal growths, hoop and tensile stresses, thread loadings and tolerance analysis to support concept and detail designs.
To liaise closely with other project team members such as stress, manufacturing, sourcing and configuration with respect to new designs or design changes.
Plan and request resources required to deliver the project.
Provide 'peer review' advice, mentoring and leadership of less experienced engineers to help them in engineering design decisions across all Machines projects
Authoring, reviewing, and approving engineering documentation related to Mechanical Design.
Support the Product Introduction Process project design reviews as required.
Qualifications / Experience
Degree or equivalent qualification in an appropriate Engineering discipline and proven track record of Mechanical Design experience
Experience of team leadership
Should be highly self-motivated and a self-starter
Should have a record of producing excellent engineering solutions to problems faced.
Must be able to effectively communicate, formally and informally with peer group, other team members, suppliers and customers.
Must have an understanding of engineering materials and production methods relevant to them
A sound understanding of the design and development process
An aptitude for working systematically, managing the work of others, and providing sound strategic visibility
in the management of the team and products
Leadership and team management skills with a proactive and energetic style
Ability to work within agreed timescales and budgets and follow tasks through to completion
May be required to travel, often at short notice, to UK, Europe and possibly including travel to Asia and America
Ability to gain credibility within the stakeholder audience, including peers, management and customers,
Produce and deliver presentations to employees at any level and customers
Liaison with customers, suppliers, partners and sub-contract agencies.
Ability to analyse and resolve complex problems by devising creative and effective solutions
Competent in using Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project tools.
