As Principal Mechanical Engineer you'll be part of a team producing mechanical design deliverables such as Mechanical Handling Equipment, Special Purpose Machinery and Lifting Equipment. In this role you'll be instrumental in providing technical guidance and leadership to ensure that teams can deliver work packages for both existing clients and for new bids. It is not essential that you have nuclear industry experience, but preference will be given to those that do have it.

Job Description

Working closely with internal engineering and project teams you'll be key in developing team workloads and project plans, ensuring that work packages are delivered to programme, budget, legal, quality, and health and safety standards. You'll manage Mechanical Engineers and Designers to develop ideas into conceptual engineering designs from first principles. This will involve carrying out checks on the design team's progress through the chairing of Design Risk Assessments and Design Reviews and coordinating the production of:

Design Schemes
Design Proposal Drawings
Detail Drawings
General Assemblies
Functional Specifications/ Functional Requirements Documents
Technical Reports and Studies
Design Justification Reports

Qualifications / Experience

Degree-level or an equivalent qualification in a relevant Engineering discipline, or equivalent relevant experience
You will preferably be Chartered, though this is a desirable
Significant experience of producing mechanical design deliverables, preferably within the nuclear industry
Good knowledge and hands on experience of fabrication techniques, geometric tolerancing, weld symbols, limits and fits and surface finish
A working knowledge of Inventor and AutoCAD too
As well having knowledge and experience in applying relevant EH&S legislation and directives, you'll need to have taken part in designers risk assessments, design reviews and (ideally) in HAZOP studies.
