I am currently recruiting for a trading arm of the UK's MoD - a world-leading agency providing the most comprehensive range of marine geospatial information across the globe. This information is supplied to commercial shipping, defence navies and maritime organisations for the primary purpose of safe navigation and global trade efficiency. It also supports other marine activities including economic development, environmental protection, resource exploration and utilisation, scientific research and security and defence.
Main purpose of role
The post holder will be responsible for the overall design of the data architecture across multiple divisions and data types (big data, data science, structured, semi-structured and unstructured), balancing the need for access against security and performance requirements. This post holder will have key input into the enterprise information architecture including data roadmap design, access, usage and stewardship.
The position also requires an understanding of emerging regulatory issues surrounding information assets (such as consumer privacy laws, data retention, outsourced data and specific industry guidelines). The post holder will also consider the development or use of process models, creation or use of information or target data models, interface designs, and technical alignment of solutions, security and quality of information assets.

> Expert level data modelling, conceptual through to physical, relational, object, analytical and NoSQL
> At least 10 years' data modelling experience in a software engineering environment
> Expert level in the creation and maintenance of enterprise data artefacts
> Highly motivated with experience of selecting and working with data and data tools
> Experience of canonical modelling
> Capable of engaging senior stakeholders and developing and maintaining strong working relationships within the organisation and third party suppliers
> Able to manage their time effectively and work proactively across projects as well as BAU tasks
> Written and verbal skills to enable them to communicate complex data and information problems and solutions
> Experience of developing data strategies, policies and standards
> The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) Practitioner
> Highly proficient in at least one query language for each of the following: relational; analytical; NoSQL
> Proven innovator with proficient software engineering skills to prototype relational; analytical; NoSQL solutions
> Practical experience in geospatial data design
> Understanding of project management and business analysis activities
> Practical line management and/or resource management experience
> Experience in data mining, data science, data engineering and machine learning
> Awareness of MoD security policies and constraints
> Service-oriented architecture and master data management experience
