Job Description

Our defence systems technology client in Surrey are experts in whole system solutions, from concept, research and design, to manufacture, installation and testing.

As the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer you will be responsible for all aspects of mechanical design engineering on assigned projects which will include but not limited to, ship and vehicle installation and integration of a variety of ruggedised equipment, from design and verification for housings, installations and the generation of production drawings and documentation for in-house or external manufacture.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in mechanical design, preferably in the Defence & Aerospace industry.

In the role of Senior Mechanical Design Engineer your skills and experience will include:

Ability to work within a team on multiple projects simultaneously and deliver to challenging timescales within a small team environment.
Commitment to quality, performance and cost, delivering on-time with the highest standard of output.
Proven experience with all aspects of mechanical design engineering.
Comprehensive experience with AutoCAD/ Inventor and good IT skills;
Ability to gather, collate and analyse cost data relating to mechanical design.
Ensure mechanical designs meet client, end user requirements.
Set an example to other members of the business as to how to manage designs.
Demonstrate good verbal and written communications skills which provide comprehensive instructions, coherent reports and documents for both internal and external use.
Be self-motivated with a passion to learn, teach and create new and unique designs and capabilities.
Ability to travel between both our sites at Surrey and Dorset for extended periods when required.
The ability to optimise designs by challenging design concepts and trade requirements.
Enjoy coaching and mentoring more junior members of the team identifying training needs and suitable courses for individual and team development.

Qualifications and Requirements

A degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent relevant experience.
A fresh approach to mechanical design, designing new and innovative mechanical solutions to complex and variable projects, focusing on delivering the best value to the customer.
Ability to work across functions with Operations, Manufacturing and Production engineers to ensure products are designed for manufacture.
SolidWorks experience.
Knowledge of FEA & COMSOL
Mechatronics knowledge or experience.
Working to BS88 standards.
