My client is a software and solutions company with a key ability to join up software systems and link them to complex hardware to provide seamless solutions to "too hard" problems. They focus mainly on consultancy and bespoke services to a wide range of clients in a range of markets. We are currently looking for a Software Solutions Architect to join the team in Chippenham/ Bristol. The role relates to providing leadership and direction within the space section of the business.
The Space industry is going through a revolution in multiple areas such as the costs to accessing orbit, mass production techniques being applied to satellite manufacture, use of satellite communications to enable Internet of Things and terabytes of Earth observation data being generated daily that entail classic big data opportunities.
My client is an established company in the space sector and aims to be a pivotal player in the commercial sector. My client is therefore looking to recruit a Solutions Architect in the satellite ground segment to assist in growing our business.
About the Role
My client is looking to cement its position within the institutional market, as well as move into the commercial sector addressing both telecoms operators and operators of mega-constellations. A Solutions Architect will be recruited to provide direction and leadership within the Space division in all aspects of the ground segment.
The Division is therefore looking for an ambitious, innovative, technically driven and commercially aware engineer with a proven track record. In addition to supporting our institutional clients we are investing in productising our offering, which the successful candidate will shape, lead and direct.
*Provide direction and leadership to all aspects of application architecture, infrastructure and application design
*Provide guidance on the selection of IT solutions (including software packages) for projects. Being able to evaluate the potential impacts on the customer such as license costs, phasing out of legacy systems, training, etc.
*Select the appropriate design standards, methods and tools and ensure they are applied effectively
*Take full responsibility for the overall system architecture and when required manage the work of an architecture team
*Work with business analysts and/or elicit business requirements to ensure the technical solution meets the business' needs and can be delivered on the chosen architecture
*Identify the commercial impacts of changes in the analysis and implementation model and evaluate these in conjunction with project management.
*Ensure that the development team are following the agreed technical architecture and development methodologies. Consolidate the specification and design to facilitate the development of IT systems
*Assist with pre-sales support, presentations to customers and conferences/workshops.
*Lead and shape the technical solutions to be presented within proposals to customers.
*Define technology roadmaps and input to the shaping of the Division's strategy
*Actively contribute to the Division's Technology Forum and support internal lunchtime seminars
*Keep abreast of technology and develop new techniques for use in systems architecture
oAble to provide expert advice in a digestible form to both the company and its customers.
oAbility to estimate costs and implementation timescales associated with potential solutions.
oExperience of leading technical teams
oExcellent customer engagement, communication and presentation skills
oProven track record of writing successful proposals
oDemonstrable experience of the requirements management process
oDeveloping solution, system and/or software architectures
oProven track record of designing, estimating and implementing large-scale enterprise level applications and/or mission critical systems
oProven experience of a range of development lifecycles (e.g. Agile, Waterfall, DSDM)
oIn depth understanding of design and modelling techniques (e.g. SysML/UML)
oIn depth knowledge of multi-tier client-server architecture
oSignificant experience of designing in accordance with existing standards, protocols and interfaces.
oIn depth understanding of estimating techniques (e.g. Cost, Effort, Risk).
oA broad familiarity with a range of software technologies, including:
Knowledge of operating systems (e.g. Windows, Linux)
Knowledge of XML and related technologies
Knowledge of various database approaches (e.g. SQL, NoSQL)
Understanding of Open Source licensing issues
oAbility to identify and introduce disruptive technologies into solutions.
Domain Knowledge (desirable but not essential)
oExperience of Ground Segments for institutional or commercial satellites
oGround Control Systems covering control, planning, automation, simulation or archiving
oGround Mission Systems covering payload data processing, instrument planning or archiving
oAssembly, Integration and Testing
oFrom time to time you will be asked to work on customer sites throughout the UK, Europe and outside the EU, which requires a willingness to travel and work onsite.
oYou must be able to obtain the required security clearances.
oYou must be eligible to work in the UK.
