Job Description

We are currently looking for a hands-on Technical/Solutions Architect to contribute to new and existing projects within our Enterprise Solutions and Defence Division, Specifically, we are looking for a proven or emerging technical leader to work on our clients maritime business projects delivering market-leading decision support for use in modern naval combat systems.
You will have a proven track record of designing, estimating and implementing large-scale enterprise level applications and/or web solutions and extensive software development and design experience and proven experience of the software development lifecycle, preferably using a formal approach such as SCRUM

As part of the role you will be responsible for:
*Provide solution architectures, including infrastructure and application design and the selection of IT components and packages
*Work with business analysts and/or elicit the business requirements to ensure technical solutions meet business needs and can be delivered on the chosen architecture.
*Assess the potential impacts on the customer such as implementation, license costs, maintenance, etc.
*Take responsibility for solution architecture and lead delivery/development teams, ensuring the agreed technical architecture and development methodologies are followed.
*Assist with pre-sales support and presentations to customers.
*Contribute to bids and take the lead on the technical aspects of responses.
*Keep abreast of technology and develop new techniques for use in systems architecture.
*Estimate the costs and implementation timescales associated with potential solutions.
You will have the following experience:
Software Engineering
*Understanding of design and modelling techniques (e.g. UML)
*Understanding of estimating techniques (e.g. Cost, Effort, Risk).
*Familiarity with web application development, integration and testing (e.g. JSF, Spring)
*An understanding of various development methodologies (e.g. Agile, Waterfall, DSDM)
*An understanding of software standards (e.g. ISO9001, ISO 20000:1)
*Degree or equivalent in computer science, engineering or a scientific discipline
Software Architectures
*In depth knowledge of multi-tier client-server architectures
*In depth knowledge of Service Orientated architectures
*Experience of taking requirements and proposing system architectures
*Understanding of virtualisation strategies and sub-capacity licensing models
*Experience of security policies and models
*Experience gained in either a solution or software design role, with demonstrable, practical experience - preferably on complex software-centric projects
*Experience in architecting using MoDAF/DoDAF, Archimate or Zachmann Framework, using at least one architecture tool (e.g. Sparx Enterprise Architect, System Architect, Troux/Metis, Corporate Modeller, ARIS, MooD Business Architect)
*Knowledge of web-based technologies and associated standards
*Knowledge of enterprise databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, SQL-Server, ORACLE)
*Knowledge of operating systems (e.g. Windows, Linux, mobile)
*Knowledge of XML and related technologies
*Knowledge of middleware architectures (ESB, SOA)
*Understanding of Open Source licensing issues
*Knowledge of Spring Boot and AngularJS
*Knowledge of Maven, Jenkins, Nexus, Eclipse, Jira, and Git
*Knowledge of GraphQL
*Experience of using Java
Desirable skills
*Understanding of project management techniques
*Experience of Quality Assurance and testing
*Understanding of cloud hosting models and their security and management implication
*Knowledge of OpenSplice (DDS), Geoserver, PostGIS and Solr
*Ability to carry out software development work if needed, particularly using Java
*Experience of working within MOD environments (Air, Land, Maritime, C4ISR, JFC, DSTL)
*Ability to demonstrate understanding of the Deployed and Tactical Military Domains
