As an experienced Infrastructure engineer (covering Cloud and Physical systems), you have the opportunity to help develop the next generation of tactical communication systems used by the UK's Armed Forces (the current one being Bowman). You can be a key part of the team designing and delivering the Morpheus Programme the new cutting edge system to be used by the MoD and others.

About the job:
The role is responsible for specifying, deploying and supporting the Applications & Infrastructure capability hosting environment. The role requires experience of cloud (Public/Private/Hybrid) hosting technologies e.g. Software as a Service, Applications as a Service, Infrastructure as a Service. The role is required to maintain an awareness and understanding of evolving technologies and customer requirements in this domain.
The successful candidate will contribute to and lead tasks at different stages in the provisioning lifecycle. Tasks assigned will be varied and include analysing and defining customer requirements, specification, configuration, verification and support of hosting services.
The successful candidate will be expected to work with multi-disciplined engineering team to deliver solutions that meet customer needs to a defined quality standard within agreed timescales and budgets.
Establish the secure IT Compute and Connectivity services required to provide the platform to host the Vertex Integration Framework, Product/Service development environments and demonstrate candidate MORPHEUS solutions:?
Development and documentation of hosting designs.
Documentation, configuration, verification, provisioning and support of Application & Infrastructure service for use internally and by 3rd parties
Work with external and internal stakeholders to clarify requirements and agree designs/solutions to satisfy those requirements.
Cost modelling of service provision within available budgets. Monitoring of resource utilisation and optimisation (cost and performance)
Collaboration with GDUK IT department for acquisition and operation of services.
Collaboration with external 3rd parties to deliver services in a manner that protects their confidentiality and intellectual property.
Undertake analysis of design changes to confirm feasibility and impacts on the system to inform implementation decisions.
Accurate and timely reporting of progress and escalation of issues to Programme and Engineering management.
Present outputs of work, conclusions and recommendations at internal and external reviews
Responsible for time management ensuring work outputs delivered to agreed schedule
Present and demonstrate solutions to relevant stakeholders to gain feedback on the development activities and support future improvements.
Ensure the hosting environment delivers the required services and performance to meet the needs of for the solutions built upon it in a timely manner and at the required level of availability.
Responsibilities That Are More Supervisory In Nature:
Creates plans and processes for his/her area of responsibility by tailoring standard templates to the needs of the project. Assumes cost and schedule responsibility for a cost account/work package of reasonable proportions;
Participates in job interviews for more junior personnel. May also participate in interviewing at job fairs and for co-ops.
Breadth of experience in a role that demonstrates technical experience and application of service configuration, deployment and support skills with a track record of delivery.
Experience of provision cloud-based services (Public/Private/Hybrid)
Experience of active resource management e.g. load balancing, license management
Demonstrates understanding of the service engineering lifecycle and phases, and challenges associated with in a delivery focussed, commercially successful organisation.
Experience in configuring and deploying software development and test environments
Experience in configuring Application servers (e.g. Databases, Web Servers) and servers (e.g. messaging, SOAs/ESBs)
Experienced in engineering methods and tools for elaborating hosting architectures and service requirements.
Experienced in engineering methods and tools for service modelling
Confident and effective dealing with Customers, End Users and 3rd parties.
Good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills as well as motivation, integrity, professionalism, flexibility, commitment and innovation
Hold or be capable of holding security clearance
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
Required Education & Experience
Typically requires degree level education, and a wide range of relevant experience, or equivalent.
