Job Description

Our client is a world leader in the provision and integration of cutting-edge technology, primarily specialist vehicles and systems to the Defence and Security sectors.

They are looking for a Project Manager to join them on a Contract basis at their site in South Wales.

Purpose of Position

The role will be part of an exciting new programme for the MoD to modernise the existing tactical mobile network for the British Armed Forces, delivering new capability and performance of the computing, communications and situational awareness for the soldier.

The programme will develop and deliver a new system based on an open tactical CIS architecture that integrates existing and new communication products. The system includes specification and procurement of software and hardware products as well as development of new hardware and software products and software interfaces to open up the existing tactical CIS system to support reduced integration effort and cost while enabling the system for future evolution with new technology and capability.

The Project Manager will lead a team of System Architects, Systems Engineers and Test Engineers to work on the development, integration and test of the system and products, using both Waterfall and Agile Programme Management methodologies. You will be responsible for ensuring the timely provision of formal programme and contractual deliverables, Agile performance metrics, progress reports and data/information in support of the key performance indicators on the programme. You will also be accountable for programme budgetary control and effective risk management.

The job holder will need to establish an excellent working relationship with all members of the programme team and Customer stakeholders and ensure the team delivers against both its hard and soft contractual requirements

Key responsibilities will include;

Close interaction with the project and engineering teams to ensure all programme and contractual deliverables are delivered to budget and schedule.
Day to day management of the engineering and system design teams.
Applying and adhering to SAFe Agile methodology.
Ownership of the System Design and Architecture budget, correctly managing cost allocation to the appropriate task and associated WBS items
Provision of regular performance updates and reports for the Agile Design and Development Programme to support internal and external reviews
Supporting of the KPI regime, ensuring monthly KPI targets are achieved and KPI performance trackers are accurately updated and reflected in monthly reports to the Joint Project Office and senior management
Facilitating and contributing to key customer reviews, internal programme reviews and other assurance and governance activities as required
Maintenance of comprehensive records relating to all knowledge transfer activities
Deputising for the senior Programme Manager as required

To be considered, applicants will need to be degree qualified, will have technical project/process management experience or in-depth knowledge of programme management techniques including project planning, project control, change management, performance reporting, cost control and risk & opportunity management.

You will have:
Solid project management experience gained within large, complex, multiple stakeholder projects
Experience of delivering projects/programmes using Agile methodologies (e.g SAFe)
Customer facing experience coupled with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Detailed understanding of project management techniques, including cost accounting, progress monitoring, risk and opportunity management and performance reporting
Previous experience working within highly performing collaborative teams
Ability to work within a large multi-national and multi-disciplined team embracing engineering, support, finance, commercial and project management functions.
Experience of change and change management programmes
Proactive execution management and strong schedule adherence
Experience of the application of Key Performance Indicators to demonstrate programme health across a wide range of facets
