Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Project Engineer

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a highly skilled Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) department within a leading defence and technology organisation as am EMC Project Engineer. The EMC function is unlike any other, combining a cutting-edge testing facility with an expert project consultancy team. Together, they ensure that products meet the highest standards of EMC performance throughout their lifecycle — from concept and development to in-service support and disposal.

As part of the EMC Project Team, you will play a critical role in shaping risk reduction and qualification strategies to bring advanced products into service. This includes generating essential documentation, advising on robust design principles, and supporting qualification activities. You’ll have the opportunity to work alongside specialists across various projects, influencing design decisions and ensuring compliance with EMC requirements.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Developing Environmental Requirement Specifications (ERS) and supporting documentation, including EMC Control Plans, Proving Plans, Requirements, and Proving Instructions.
• Reviewing designs, hardware, and product concepts to ensure robust EMC performance.
• Supporting qualification activities and providing technical guidance throughout product development.
• Collaborating with project teams to ensure the successful implementation of EMC requirements across complex systems.

 
Requirements

• Higher education or relevant experience in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, EMC, or similar fields.
• A sound understanding of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) principles and design considerations.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• A professional and adaptable approach, with the ability to thrive in evolving project environments.

• Ideally you will have prior experience providing technical support in the field of Electromagnetic Compatibility.

Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Project Engineer
Salary: Up to £55,000 depending on experience
Location: Hybrid working – 2 to 3 days per week on-site Role can be based in Bristol or Hitchin Hertfordshire
