Ornithological Specialist

We are looking for a highly skilled ecologist with a strong ornithological background to lead on a variety of development and nature recovery projects across the UK. This role offers the opportunity to shape ecological outcomes, manage projects, and mentor a growing team of ecologists.
 
About the role:

• Salary: Circa £75,000
• Location: Hybrid anywhere in the UK
• Title: Associate Ecologist / Associate Director – Ornithological Specialist

What you will be doing:

• Undertake ecological assessment and habitat design for a variety of development and nature recovery projects
• Plan and implement protected species surveys, mitigation strategies, and licensing requirements
• Develop innovative and pragmatic approaches to ecological mitigation and compensation
• Collaborate within multi-disciplinary teams and engage with stakeholders
• Lead on ecological aspects of projects, including mentoring and line management

• Manage projects from bidding through to completion, including task allocation, mentoring, and line management

 
Essential experience:

• Strong ornithological knowledge and practical survey experience
• Working knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and ecological guidance
• Proven project management skills, including client engagement and deliverable oversight

• The ability to undertake UKHab surveys, Preliminary Ecological Assessment, Ecological Impact Assessment, Habitats Regulations Assessment and Biodiversity Net Gain assessments.

• Membership of CIEEM (or equivalent) with ability to achieve chartership (CEnv or CEcol)
• Full UK driving licence
