Overview
We are seeking a Senior Research Scientist to join a specialist Research & Innovation function within a high-technology engineering environment. The role supports the development of advanced technical solutions, research strategy, and project delivery across multi-disciplinary teams.
You will contribute to both bidding and delivery activities, identifying opportunities to transition research into capability and applied solutions.
Key Responsibilities

• Lead and support the technical delivery of research programmes to time, cost, and quality requirements
• Contribute to bid development and technical solution design
• Identify and support opportunities to transition research into capability and product development
• Provide technical leadership on multi-disciplinary research projects
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external customers to deliver technical outcomes
• Interpret and communicate complex analysis into clear technical advice for decision-makers
• Support the development of junior staff and contribute to a collaborative team environment

Required Qualifications

• Degree or PhD in Physics, Mathematics, or a related discipline (engineering background considered where research-focused experience is demonstrated)
• Strong communication skills, including presentations and stakeholder engagement
• Excellent written communication skills, including technical reporting and bid writing
• Proven ability to work effectively within a team

Skills & Experience
Candidates should demonstrate experience in underwater acoustics (or similar) and one or more of the following areas, with an ability to work across disciplines:

• Signal processing, image analysis, or automated detection systems
• Statistical modelling, data science, machine learning, AI, or data visualisation
• Modelling of complex systems or physical phenomena
• Numerical simulation, including computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
• Remote sensing or ocean/environmental modelling
• Laboratory experimentation
• Technical leadership of research or engineering projects
• Use of scientific computing tools such as MATLAB or Python
