Software Solutions Architect

You will take complete ownership of the software architecture for a rapidly growing research and development team backed by a brand new multimillion-pound investment into robotics technologies. This role allows you to shape high-integrity automation from early concepts through to deployment whilst leading the integration of next-generation autonomous capabilities. You will drive technical direction within a fast-expanding environment where your architecture directly enables real-world physical systems to operate safely and effectively.

Essential requirements
  • British nationality is required due to security obligations.
  • Proven experience designing system-level software architecture for physical hardware or complex robotics.
  • Strong background implementing continuous integration and continuous deployment processes for safety-critical software.
Your package

What you will work on

  • Define and develop end-to-end software architecture for advanced vehicle automation and robotic systems.
  • Establish robust continuous integration and continuous deployment processes for safety-critical software components.
  • Lead architectural design for computer vision, sensor integration, digital twin technology and real-time simulations.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams to embed software systems seamlessly into physical hardware products.
  • Coach and mentor team members to enhance capabilities and expand overall software engineering expertise across the department.

Skills and background

  • A degree in software engineering, computer science or an equivalent technical qualification.
  • Essential technical proficiency using Linux alongside real-time software development in C, C or Python.
  • Foundational understanding of electronics with the ability to read electrical schematics.
  • Demonstrable experience with modern software engineering practices tailored to autonomous systems.
  • Prior experience with the Robot Operating System, machine learning algorithms or computer vision tools is highly advantageous.
  • Exposure to machine control systems, programmable logic controllers or automation software is desirable.

Location and setup

  • Based in Newcastle with a hybrid setup requiring three days onsite each week. Some occasional UK and overseas travel to partner sites may be required.
