Architecture Lead / Principal Systems Engineer
Rate: Up to £765 per day, inside IR35
Location: Bristol
Working pattern: 2 to 3 days per week onsite
Contract: Initial 6 months
Electus Recruitment Solutions is currently supporting a major high-technology engineering programme with the appointment of an experienced Architecture Lead / Principal Systems Engineer to lead the development and delivery of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) capability within a complex defence programme (Weapon Handling and Launch System).
This is a senior technical leadership role combining systems architecture, MBSE and team leadership, with responsibility for approximately four FTEs within the wider architecture and systems engineering team.
Key responsibilities

• Lead the development of system architecture throughout the engineering lifecycle, supporting programme reviews and key technical milestones.
• Define architecture deliverables and work packages and maintain the Architecture Management Plan.
• Develop and implement MBSE modelling best practice using the MagicGrid framework.
• Lead the use and development of Cameo as the programme's architecture modelling environment, including plugin implementation and coordination of server administration.
• Ensure architecture outputs are technically robust, configuration managed and maintained within the appropriate engineering and PLM environments.
• Lead a team of systems and architecture engineers in developing system behaviours, structures and interfaces.
• Use a collaborative, middle-out approach to identify technical conflicts, gaps and areas of risk within the architecture.
• Work closely with requirements, integration, test and V&V stakeholders to ensure the architecture supports the wider engineering lifecycle.
• Develop systems engineering capability and technical competence across the wider team.

About you
You will be an experienced Principal Systems Engineer, Systems Architect or Architecture Lead with a strong background in complex engineering environments.
You should have:

• Significant experience developing and owning system architectures.
• Strong practical experience of MBSE and systems modelling.
• Experience using Cameo and ideally the MagicGrid methodology.
• Experience leading technical teams and developing engineering capability.
• A good understanding of requirements, integration, verification and validation within a structured systems engineering lifecycle.
• Experience working with multidisciplinary technical stakeholders and resolving architectural conflicts and gaps.
• Experience with configuration management and the governance of architecture models and engineering outputs.
• Ideally, experience with Cameo administration, plugin implementation or architecture modelling infrastructure.

This is an opportunity to take technical ownership of architecture and MBSE delivery within a complex, highly regulated engineering environment.
